Iowa Prison Population Rises in Fiscal 2010
Iowa prison population increased to 8,608 inmates across nine facilities as of June 30 2010 up from 8,453 a year earlier. The rise amid the lowest yearly admissions in a decade was mainly due to a 203 rise in new court commitments, offset by fewer parole revocations and other factors, per corrections director John Baldwin.
