Elephants at Ringling Circus Learn Tricks and Rules
The article profiles Axel Gautier and his 19 elephants of Ringling Brothers and Barnum & Bailey. It notes elephants sleep standing or lying, require 11 keepers, and live as long as average men. It describes train commands, bellows for approval, and that elephants react to sounds and need care and protection from fright.
