Civil Service Call Asked to Restore Assistant Building Official Status
The Cedar Rapids civil service commission asks the city council to rescind last month's action and restore the assistant building official job to civil service status. Ed Colton had altered the description and promoted inspector Charles Hooper to the post, which had been vacant since January after Donald King resigned. The commission argues the position is defined by state code as civil service and should remain so. Officials acknowledge confusion over the memo from the city attorney and the vote. Several city officials were unavailable due to vacations or illness during the discussion.
