A House Ways and Means Committee poll found a majority of its 25 members opposed to the President's graduated corporation levy. Fourteen called for a substitute such as an excess profits tax, citing business critics who warn it would harm economic recovery. The panel plans executive sessions to advance the bill, while Chamber of Commerce and manufacturers push for spending cuts and delay to prevent rushed action.
