Uncle Wiggily leaves the seashore for the country and finds a barn cat living near a mint scented brook. The nervous cat recalls barn life and jumps at every sound until a barking dog appears. The cat defends them, saving Uncle Wiggily by leaping onto the dog and driving it away. She relaxes beside the rabbit as they talk, promising to tell more in a future installment.
