Linn homes annexed into Marion after public hearing
The City Development Board unanimously approved annexation of nine Linn County homes near Vallee High. Homeowners will move to Marion by next week with taxes rising about 500 dollars annually over five years. Water sewer hookups will follow as residents switch from septic wells.

Huss Everest slide show draws 800 at Crowne Plaza
Huss of Iowa City returned from Nepal after attempting Mount Everest with a team sponsored by Gazette Communications. The slide show at the Crowne Plaza Five Seasons Hotel Ballroom attracted about 800, with spectators photographing Huss’s pictures as he shared the journey and the two month expedition. He spoke of the 13 year goal, the people, and the dangers of high altitude including avalanches and frost bite. the team ended 1500 feet short of the summit due to bacterial infection. The event was free to the public.
