Iowa Department of Transportation operates the first state affiliated day care in Ames with 125 children daily, improving employee morale and performance. A second center may open at Woodward State Hospital and School, serving about 120 of 1,000 hospital workers, with plans for 24 hour and sick care if successful.

Mayo surgeons remove fist-sized heart tumor from infant

An eight-month-old girl, Emily Klonoski of Scranton, Pa., underwent a 54-hour operation at the Mayo Clinic to remove a fist-sized benign tumor from her heart. Surgeon team led by Dr. Gordon Danielson said the tumor, invading the right ventricle, was the largest they had removed. the baby returned home to Pennsylvania with a near normal outlook.
