Freezing berries with light syrup cuts cost and calories

Using a 30 percent syrup lowers both price and calories for frozen berries. Dissolve 2 cups sugar in 4 cups water to make the syrup, cool before pouring over berries, and use about 4 percent to 1/2 cup syrup per pint. A pint of berries in 50 percent syrup has about 510 calories, versus about 340 calories in 30 percent syrup.
