Firefighters battle long milling plant blaze in Cedar Rapids
Cedar Rapids firefighters worked in shifts to contain a fire at International Paper, 4600 C St. SW, starting Saturday morning. Bales of recycled cardboard burned deeply. crews used skid loaders and excavators to remove burning bundles. Cause is under investigation and one firefighter was lightly injured. Crews left the scene Monday at 8:30 a.m. with aid from surrounding departments.

One killed in West Branch I-80 crash near mile marker 256
A 2012 Dodge Journey crashed into a bridge support on I-80 near West Branch at 7:16 p.m. Sunday. The driver, not named, was ejected and died at the scene as the vehicle burned. The incident remains under investigation. In Cedar Rapids a man named Anthony Skriver, 19, is charged with first degree robbery after allegedly threatening Casey's General Store with a knife, stealing cash, and injuring property during the incident. He was found with methamphetamine and marijuana and faces multiple counts.
