Sudden by own action attacks kill dozens across Iraq
A man wearing civilian clothes detonated two hazardous material belts at an Iraqi army recruiting center in Baghdad killing many recruits and injuring about 50. Al Qaeda in Iraq claimed responsibility as other passing by own action bombings hit Mosul, Kirkuk, Fallujah, and the Walid border crossing wounding and killing civilians and security personnel.

Pfc. Eric Paul Woods 26 of Omaha died in Iraq when he stopped to aid a wounded soldier after an explosion. He had recently turned down a front line move to stay and help others. Woods, of G Troop 2nd Squadron 38th Armored Cavalry Regiment, was based at Fort Carson and deployed since March. He grew up in Urbandale and attended Urbandale High School class of 1997. He is survived by his wife Jamie and their 3-year-old son in Omaha.
