Eleven Iowa counties named disaster areas by Clinton

Eleven Iowa counties were declared major disaster areas by President Clinton after Gov. Branstad requested aid. The declaration includes Clayton, Jackson, Johnson, Louisa, Muscatine, Clinton, Des Moines, Dickinson, Humboldt, Scott and Wapello, with assistance for individuals, households, and local governments.

Eligible residents may receive rent support up to 18 months, grants for minimal repairs, needs grants up to 11900, unemployment benefits, and low interest loans for home personal property and business losses. Doctor's life begun in Center Point after a town plea

In 1950 while recovering at St Luke's Cedar Rapids Kenneth Andersen, then a resident, learned Center Point needed a doctor. A local postmaster urged him to consider practice here. He rented a downtown building, planned a solo rural clinic, and later built his own facility, launching decades of service.
