Hogan Not Retiring After British Open Victory
Ben Hogan, relaxed after winning the British Open at Carnoustie with a 72 total of 282, denies retirement plans. He will travel to Paris for an Army exhibition and then play the Masters Tournament next March in Augusta, Ga. He will skip defending the Open next year and may not participate in the Ryder Cup. Hogan, 40, says there is little mileage left in his frame and plans to take it easy. He finished four strokes ahead of Stranahan, Rees, Thomson, and Cerda, with Mangrum 301. Hogan becomes the third golfer to win both the British and U S Open in the same year.
