Priest faces theft charge over Holy Land tour funds
Iowa City priest Rev. Daniel Mackey, 36, is accused in a first degree theft case of taking $6,007 from 35 parishioners who paid for a 15 day Holy Land trip. Prosecutors say he planned to use funds to secure a Jerusalem condo, while defense argues the money was his commission for arranging the tour. The trial began with claims of miscommunication and will continue next week.
