University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics adds a 26 foot Mobile Critical Care Unit to its emergency transport fleet. The MCCU provides intensive care en route to hospitals and supports on scene stabilization. It complements the Air Care helicopter and neonatal transport van while enabling long distance inter hospital transfers. Volunteers donated 50000 dollars to fund the vehicle.
University of Iowa Health News Service details three ongoing research projects tracing patients from decades ago. The Iowa 500 study follows 500 schizophrenia and mood disorder patients diagnosed 1935 to 1945, tracing 97 percent of patients and 91 percent of relatives. A scoliosis cohort of 300 Iowa cases from 1932 to 1948 informs spine treatment. A Muscatine school child heart risk study began eight years ago, reexamining 5,000 kindergarteners into adolescence for future heart attack and stroke risk.
The Institute of Man sponsors a four week Holistic Health and Weight Loss workshop at the Farm Bureau Building starting July 11. Sessions run 7 30 to 9 30 p m. Fees are 12 dollars per person or 20 dollars per couple. Jean Gooch leads the seminars and may be reached at 377 7147 after 6 p m.
Three members of the Altrusa Club of Cedar Rapids will attend the Altrusa International Convention in Kansas City from July 22 to 27. Irene Jass will serve on the election committee. Mock Opal Dee and Porter will also attend.
