Joseph M. Roshek 44 lifelong Amana area resident died at his home after a long illness. Born November 25, 1914, he served in World War II. Survived by his parents five sisters and two brothers. Rose T. Cerny aged ? widow of Frank Cerny of 1715 Grandc ave SE died Friday. Born February 9 1867 near Solon she lived in Cedar Rapids 73 years. She married at Solon September 15 1886, her husband dying in 1906. Survived by one son Leo she belonged to Praha Rebekah lodge No. 5 IOOF. Funeral rites by Rev Milo Filipi at the Praha lodge burial arranged by the funeral home after 3 p.m. Saturday.
David Thatcher Denmead died Wednesday at 1574 Second Ave SE. Services will be held in Turner chapel at 10:30 Saturday with Rev. Keith Taber of Kenwood Presbyterian officiating. Graveside rites follow at 12:30 in Riverside Cemetery Marshalltown. Friends may call. donations to the American Cancer Fund are suggested.
Services for Edith Fanny McFarlen wife of Simon Mc Farlen will be held in the Chapel of Memories at 1 30 Saturday with Rev Hubert Sunderman of St Andrew's Evangelical United Brethren church officiating. Burial follows at Cedar Memorial cemetery. Friends may call at the Turner chapel until noon Saturday.
Frank A. Hyde 516 Tenth St SE died Friday after a brief illness. The body rests at Brady mortuary. Funeral arrangements will be announced later. Hyde had long service in The Gazette advertising and circulation departments and also served as Linn County humane officer.
Services for George Harrison Owen, 1021 Gove NW, who died Thursday, will be held at 3 Saturday in Turner chapel by the First Reader of the First Church of Christ Scientist. Burial is in Cedar Memorial cemetery. Friends may call at the chapel.

The panel will survey enrollment trends curriculum expansion salaries and student migration with findings due to the 1961 legislature.
W. C. Shuttleworth was named president of the Linn Bar Association at its annual meeting. Other officers include Robert V. Neff as president-elect, Thomas M. Collins as vice-president, William R. Bernau as secretary, and Donald G. Ribble as treasurer. Board terms include William O. Slade John J. Locher Jr Collins for one year and Alvin G. Keyes A W Bass Richard E. Benesh for two years. All officers are from Cedar Rapids.
Larry Haler six-year-old son of Mr and Mrs George Haler was hit while crossing the street after swimming at the city park. The car driven by Thomas Monroe twenty eight of Waukon struck him as he darted in front. He suffered multiple fractures and internal injuries and was moved from Waukon hospital to Rochester hospitals in fair condition.
Allen J. Dunek aged 17 of Cedar Rapids and Earl E. Sullivan aged 16 of Primghar were sentenced by District Judge G R Hill to terms in the Men’s Reformatory at Anamosa. Dunek pleaded guilty to malicious injury to buildings and fixtures at the state training school for boys on May 20 and received five years. Sullivan received one year for assault with intent to do great bodily harm connected to an incident May 13 in which night supervisor Carl Hand was attacked with a soap wrapped in a towel. Four other youths from the school are held in Hardin county jail for the beating of another night supervisor on June 28. Dudley Foes suffered concussion and scalp wounds during the break in while attempting to obtain keys and escape.
Budget director Maurice Stans told a Senate subcommittee the Pentagon will cut 1.438 billion dollars from planned missile spending, offset by a 137 million increase for Nike Zeus. The Nike Hercules and Bomarc programs face 15 to 16 squadron reductions, with broader cuts spread over 4 or 5 years.
Davenport Iowa state Sen Jack Schroeder warned that attempts will be made to whitewash a study of Iowa social welfare programs. He will attend every Public Assistance Study committee meeting to prevent bias and opposes Jake Mincks as chair claiming objectivity is needed. The committee aims to tighten regulations curb abuses and improve fund distribution.

A Cedar Rapids woman, Mrs Byron Vredenburg 18 route 3, was injured Friday in a three car crash at Third Avenue and Tenth Street SE. She was treated at St Luke's hospital and released with abrasions a chipped tooth and a cut lip. The Vredenburg car and autos driven by William Blanch of 341 Fifth Ave SW and Eugene Novak of 2108 E St SW collided at the intersection. Vredenburg was fined $10 in municipal court for disobeying a traffic signal.
Santa Monica AP reports actress Deborah Kerr divorced Tony Bartley a British television producer citing unkind language as the reason.
The Iowa Outdoor Advertising Assn representing 24 billboard firms agrees to a temporary halt on placing signs along Iowa interstate highways. The measure remains in effect as lawmakers consider a statewide ban. Stoner of the Stoner McCray System noted the group asked an Omaha company with two billboards on Interstate 35 near Osceola to remove them.
Police hunt an unidentified man who grabbed two one dollar bills from the hosiery department cash register at McClellan's 230 Second St SE Thursday afternoon. He ran east on Third Avenue to Fourth Street then north on Fourth and vanished. Store officials described the suspect as a Negro.
Three Cedar Rapids students will attend a state workshop for student councils starting Sunday at Iowa State Teachers College in Cedar Falls. Attending are Bob Atkinson and Tom McClain from Washington High School student forum, and Kay Regan from Regis High School student council secretary.
Rose Mary Anderson filed a bankruptcy petition in Cedar Rapids federal district court. She lists debts of 2426.50 and assets of 300 exempt from the action. Anderson formerly Mrs Alfred L Anderson, occupation packinghouse worker, 236 Twenty seventh St NW.
