British bombers struck the port of Naples at low level on Wednesday night, killing 14 people and wounding 30, the war communique said. The raid followed an attack on Syracuse, Sicily, and earlier raids on Palermo.
German raids on Britain target two coastal areas while British air force loses four planes. Air ministry reports bombs dropped on southeast Scotland, northern England and East Anglia with no casualties. four German aircraft shot down.
Berlin officials say British aircraft bombed several western German towns overnight causing property damage and casualties. An official news agency dispatch reported two raids on Lille in occupied France killing 19 people and injuring 60 while destroying homes and a workshop.
Two Iowa State Employment Service meetings were held in Cedar Rapids and Davenport areas. H J Eberhart announced as new Cedar Rapids office manager. Speakers from St Paul and Des Moines discussed worker analysis and general training for national defense.
A settlement of 55 damages was paid to Robert Wieneke of Route 1 after a collision on U S highway 30 five miles west of the city. A. Burk of San Francisco had earlier towed his damaged car to Marshalltown. Sheriff Jim Smith delayed release until Burk’s driver provided an accident report, which Wieneke first filed. William Lokey of Nashville, Tenn., the other driver, then came to complete the report.
Judge H C Ring approved 1258 dollars and 39 cents in fees for L D Dennis as counsel for the Mary Hruska estate. Dennis defended the guardianship of William Fahey before the supreme court, which upheld the district court ruling naming Fahey guardian. Fees to be paid from estate funds.
Final report and discharge of Delbert Collicott as administrator of Effie Collicott’s estate states $10,281.71 in assets were ordered transferred to him as heir. The court order concludes the administration and assigns the specified sum to Collicott.
