Border surge plan would reward firms with billions in contracts
A Senate immigration bill links a $46.3 billion border surge to a biometric exit system costing over $7 billion and a 700 mile high tech fence. The package would add nearly 20 000 Border Patrol agents, deploy drones and sensors, and boost prosecutions, benefiting contractors including General Atomics and private prison firms. Regulators caution waste and misallocation while DHS faces budget strain.
