Iowa City aims 3 foot levee to shield mobile homes and businesses

City officials want a 2 700 foot levee along the Iowa River in southern Iowa City to protect Baculis and Thatcher mobile home parks and 20 nearby businesses. The $3.8 million project would rise three feet above the 100 year flood plain and seek a state I-JOBS grant with a city share of about $1.7 million. Construction could start late this year if funding is approved with a September decision and a July 12 council vote.
