Osprey Release Planned at Wickiup Hill in Linn County
Conservation workers will release five six week old osprey chicks at Wickiup Hill Outdoor Learning Center near Toddville at 9 30 a m next Thursday. The public may watch as the birds are placed in a back tower then monitored daily for the rest of the summer. The event, supported by the Iowa Department of Natural Resources Wildlife Diversity, marks a historic effort to restore osprey to Linn County and possibly nest along the Cedar River in years ahead. A remote camera will let viewers watch the chicks. For more information call 6485.

DNR Officer Wins Brass Bluegill Award for Fish Iowa Program
Scott Kinseth of the Iowa DNR receives the Brass Bluegill Award for his two decade effort in youth education. He launched Fish Iowa in Independence schools in 1999, trains teachers, teaches about fishing laws and gear, and created a loaner rod program. More than 100 fifth graders take part annually through a multi week unit ending with a field day.

Casting Kids contest to be held near Independence Dairy Queen
The Tri-County Bassmasters will sponsor a Casting Kids contest from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. July 17 west of the Dairy Queen in Independence for ages 7 to 14. the winner qualifies for the state finals next spring. Evelsiz er joins PF after two years with the Iowa DNR, working with 33 PF chapters to raise funds and support conservation education. She and husband Vince, Winnipeg native, plan to live in North Liberty. her husband is a wetlands biologist for the Iowa DNR.
