Donnan Iowa fades as town dissolves after 113 years
In Fayette County Iowa the town of Donnan once thrived as a railroad junction with a 26 room hotel and several shops. Now with seven residents and a shuttered schoolhouse the town dissolved in 1991 after a long decline spurred by the rise of the automobile. Porter, the last mayor, recalls a sparse council and a $24 yearly salary. Local residents remember the era fondly as they reflect on a community that vanished but left memories.
