The $800000 Iowa Medical Waste Reduction Center near 500 41st Ave. Dr. SW Cedar Rapids will process up to 5 million pounds annually and haul infectious waste out of state for incineration before depositing at the Cedar Rapids landfill this summer. Hospitals across Eastern Iowa, including St. Luke's in Cedar Rapids and Covenant Medical Center in Waterloo, are involved with VHA Iowa's project to treat a large portion of statewide waste.
