Linn County Eyes Higher Property Tax Penalty
Linn County officials debate raising the late payment penalty from 1 percent per month to 5 percent. Treasurer James Hennessey argues higher penalties would spur on-time payments, citing Minnesota and California practices, while Supervisor Ken Schriner and others warn against broad increases that burden homeowners. The city lists and tax sale process are outlined, with potential revenue gains estimated near one million dollars yearly if paid on time.
