Coralville voters consider 2.5 million outdoor aquatic center

Coralville residents push for a new pool at S.T. Morrison Park to replace the worn facility. The $2.5 million bond referendum, funded by private gifts for half the cost, would create a 25-meter zero-depth to 12-foot lap pool, a separate 4-foot pool, a splash pad, shaded areas, restrooms, and concessions, with demolition of the old pool planned for Aug. 1, 2003 and opening by July 4, 2004.

King calls for national sales tax replacing income tax in Iowa race

Republican Steve King, the nominee in Iowa's 5th District, urged replacing the federal income tax with a national sales tax roughly 15 percent. He said elimination of the IRS would boost the economy, citing ~700 billion dollars in annual compliance costs, and noted the plan may be politically hard. He also suggested a flat income tax if needed and pledged to visit all 32 counties.
