Grain Bin Collapse Buries Highway 475 In Whiting
A 90 foot grain bin at Whiting collapsed Monday dumping 500000 bushels of corn onto Highway 475 and a nearby railroad line. No injuries were reported though homes and a tavern faced danger as traffic was detoured and rail service halted. Workers fled as the bin failed in two seconds amid a cloud of dust described as like an atomic bomb.

A NRC drafted study, obtained by Ralph Nader’s group, says the Three Mile Island accident was only one of 141 incidents from 1969 to 1979 with the potential to cause a reactor core meltdown. A meltdown would involve overheated fuel melting through the core into the ground.
