Damaged wooden bridge north of Center Point after fire

A fire Saturday afternoon damaged a 144 foot wooden bridge over West Blue Creek about three miles north of Center Point. The bridge deck was destroyed and stringers badly damaged. Fire crews arrived around 2:30 p.m. and worked about two hours. The state fire marshal is assisting the investigation. County officials will assess damage and cost before replacing the bridge, estimated at no less than 100000 for a concrete replacement.

High Court denies review of Rossey warrant ruling

The Supreme Court refused to review Linn district court’s decision on the legality of items seized under a search warrant in the Rossey theft case. Rossey, 39, of 327 Thirty-first Street SE, faces trial for a March 11, 1969 Hy-Vee theft after a jury indicted him in July 1969.

Medical Malpractice Trial Involving Waterloo Doctors

A half million dollar medical malpractice suit began in U S district court in Cedar Rapids. Susan K. O'Brien, administrator for Leona Cameron, alleges doctors Stover Sand and Ludwig and Scholtz Memorial Hospital failed to diagnose cancer that caused pain and cancer progression. Ball, attorney for the plaintiff, argued lack of biopsy and delayed diagnosis. Defendants contended cancer is incurable and difficult to diagnose. the case centers on Stover's handling from May 1967 to Oct 1967 and subsequent care through 1968, with Ames Hospital care and eventual death in August 1968.

Postal Parking Draws One Bid at Cedar Rapids Post Office

Zobac Construction Co submitted the sole bid Wednesday to enlarge the Cedar Rapids post office parking area. The bid was 27562 dollars, well above the estimated 10500. Revisions reduced the project, and awarding must be handled by postal officials in Washington. The expansion will increase public spaces from 19 to 39.
