State launches study of lakes and water quality
The Iowa Department of Natural Resources begins a $1.8 million five year project to monitor 132 lakes. Downing and ISU researchers will collect water samples to assess depth, cloudiness, dissolved oxygen, and pollutants, guiding future lake maps and watershed records. Backbone Lake is excluded due to high fecal bacteria.
