Tree of Five Seasons Grows Tarnished in Cedar Rapids
Gary Anderson, Cedar Rapids designer of the Tree of Five Seasons, says the Cedar River monument along First Avenue and First Street NE has become an eyesore. Plywood panels cover broken lighting, grout is cracked, graffiti mars the metal trunk, and pigeon droppings cover the grass as weeds flourish along the riverbank. The $650,000 sculpture, funded by private donations in 1996, now rests under city maintenance.
