Auto Sales Decline in France Amid Heavy Taxation
France saw a 10 percent drop in automobile sales in the past year with trucks down 13 percent and motorcycles 30 percent, blamed on heavy taxation and gasoline taxes. Domestic production fell from 142,464 to 127,433 units in 1935, while used car transfers also declined. Foreign cars rose slightly in used sales but overall imports dipped, reflecting France’s shift toward luxury foreign models and tax-driven demand changes.
