How a soda fountain became a jewelry store

In Cedar Rapids history, George Boyson converted a soda fountain at his drug store on Third Street and First Avenue East into part of Boyson's Jewelry. The tale covers the fountain’s marble Cleopatra bar, the 1906 semi centennial, the 1916 fire that destroyed nearby buildings, and the store’s move and longevity under the Boyson family through generations. The piece highlights community role, business shifts, and the clock that survived to symbolize continuity.
