Dole Appeals To Public For Understanding Of Issues
Sen. Robert Dole told about 40 Cedar Rapids civic leaders that voters want a president who understands the issues. He cited his 18 years in Congress, experience in agriculture policy, and his wartime service as foundations for his bid. Dole contrasted Carter's inexperience and argued the field of Republican contenders should unite after nomination.
