A string of deadly crashes and injuries marked the holiday period on Iowa roads. Stanhope farmer Embert Peterson, 49, died in a head on collision near Boone with H C Sheridan and Ruth Munson injured. Keokuk man James Jobe died after his car overturned near Keokuk, with Theodore Green Slaugh and Raymond Williams in critical condition. A Milford couple suffered the death of their month old child in a collision near Milford. Mrs. Reed Ihnen and his family were injured. A Waterloo woman, Mrs. Charles Tindell, was fatally shot by her 5 year old son during a gun handling accident. Four others were injured near Calamus in a separate crash, while six people were hurt when a car rear ended another near Ainsworth.

Home Of Murdered Lisbon Couple Sold At Auction
The Lisbon property of Mr and Mrs Clyde Hoover, shot to death June 23 allegedly by their son in law Harry Achey, sold at auction to Nick Crock for 1275. The sale drew several hundred eastern Iowa onlookers and included household goods. The home, once the first United Brethren church west of the Mississippi, was built in 1850 by the Rev Christian Hershey and later served as a livery stable and school. Achey, confined in a Cedar Rapids hospital, was described as fair by staff.

Injunctions Against Implement Removal Obtained In Tipton
District court here Saturday issued injunctions restraining the International Harvester Seogang of Chicago from removing property of the Marak Steffer Implement company. Plaintiffs C F Simmermaker S J Cook and the Cedar County Fair Association obtained the orders through foreclosure of a chattel mortgage. Simmermaker operates a hardware store Cook owns a barn and the Fair Association had contracts with Marak Steffer for storage of equipment and fair property. In each case the injunctions bar IH from removing fixtures or implements now part of the plaintiffs' holdings.

Des Moines reports booming Iowa fishing license sales driven by women anglers. For the first time this year women must obtain licenses to fish in state lakes. In one county 16 percent of licenses went to women as the 1939 season opened with 117,399 resident licenses issued in two months versus 93,606 a year earlier.

Lone Tree Resident Celebrates 97th Year
Lone Tree resident John Storm, who has lived in the area for 73 years, will celebrate his 97th birthday. Born in Ohio, he moved to Iowa with his mother, married in 1881, farmed in Johnson County, and since 1910 has resided in Lone Tree. McGregor Carnival Dancer Near Death After Self Inflicted Shot
Mary Londrigan a hula dancer with the McGregor carnival company shot herself in a tent where she slept alone. The bullet struck below the heart and she was taken to McGregor hospital with a slim chance of survival. She had worked as Peggy LaMotte and had told supervisor she was quitting. A note asked Mrs Myrtle Londrigan of Boone be notified. Parents arrived from Boone.
