Night riders widen vigilante plan in North Carolina
Solicitor John J. Burney leads an investigation into 11 floggings by a hooded clan described as night riders using Klan style methods. He identifies the ringleader as a Clarendon minister and says 11 men and four women are named in Whiteville operations, including a wealthy merchant. The group wore white robes and hooded denouncing immorality, with violence stretching back to November.

State Liquor Heads Oppose Federal Stamps Plan
Liquor control authorities from six states in the northwest and midwest adopted a resolution opposing sales of occupational liquor stamps by the federal government to retail dealers in dry states or to anyone not legally entitled. They urged the national convention to echo the stance and to educate against beverage alcohol. The next regional conference will be held in Des Moines next winter.
