Cedar Rapids police pursue suspected arson and attempted murder after a Monday fire at Viking Apartments 3900 Sherman St NE. Nancy Marie Chiafos 7 and mother Nancy Anna Chiafos 30 were rescued. both in fair condition at St Luke's Hospital. Investigators report three fires of suspicious origin in the second story unit and police seek further evidence from the apartment.
Washington moves to cut Lebanon's Middle East Airlines service Beirut to New York and suspend U S cargo flights as step one in a campaign against terrorists. State Department officials urge other nations to follow, with possible US landing rights bans for noncompliant countries.
