Deliberations Begin in Hatter Case in Cedar Rapids
The 12 woman jury starts deliberations in the first degree kidnapping trial of Bruce Hatter a 20 year old accused of abducting and sexually assaulting a 19 year old Cedar Rapids woman last December. Defense argues the act was not planned and questions the kidnapping charge while noting the victim’s delayed report and lack of conclusive physical evidence. Prosecutor says both witnesses testified to the incident and the motive was embarrassment not consent. Deliberations recessed at 5 p m and resume next day at 9 a m.

Katz brothers sell land to Marion for police station
Henry and Bert Katz of Katz Salvage agreed to sell two acres east of Marion to the city for $1 for a new municipal building. The land, part of 11 acres near Seventh Avenue and 35th Street, would require voter approval in November to finance the project. Police Chief Zier valued the site at about $100,000. The Katz brothers, absent from the meeting, stipulate the land be used for municipal purposes only unless they approve another use.
