Farm leader warns of tax dilemma in Iowa cities

Harold Anderson of the Iowa Farm Bureau Federation warns the Legislature will face a continuing tax dilemma when it convenes next January. If the 9 percent tax limit on city and county funds expires, taxes on those funds could rise sharply. a end to the 6 percent assessment limit could push residential values to full value and raise levies. Some assessors have boosted valuations by as much as 50 percent this year. If productivity based agricultural property assessments are not extended, farm values will rise sharply. 30 years ago the Soviet blockade of Berlin impacted the USSR more than the Allies as the U S and Britain airlifted supplies.
