Supreme Court narrows parental veto in abortion ruling
The 5-4 decision bars states from enforcing parental consent for minors seeking abortions while leaving room for narrowly drawn laws requiring parental consultation. Justices suggested courts may uphold such measures if overruled by judges in specific cases. Reactions split between anti and pro abortion groups and church leaders. The ruling closes a loophole highlighted by tax law changes since 1969 and cited a New York couple featured on Sixty Minutes as an example of the practice.
