The Linn county recorder office raised recording fees per the 64th general assembly schedule. Mailers must include new fees: $2.50 for the first page and $2 for each additional page on contracts bills of sale leases mortgages releases affidavits tax liens plats condemnations deeds and articles of incorporation. A suit by Penick and Ford in U S district court is stayed by mutual agreement pending a Colorado case outcome. Mrs. Herbert Richardson of Ely won nine blue ribbons at the All Iowa fair artificial flower show. She took two firsts in artistic design and seven blue ribbons for hand made flowers. In teen division Chris Richardson led with three first place entries, with Ruth Netolicky and Delta Richardson also winning blue ribbons. James A. Salem a 24 year old Cedar Rapids resident remained in serious condition Friday at University Hospitals in Iowa City after a Thursday night motorcycle crash on Highway 94 near Palo. He suffered severe head injuries when his bike went off the road and struck a driveway embankment as deputies investigated the scene.

Donald R. Geater's bid to release a lien on his Cedar Rapids and Hiawatha lots was denied in Linn district court. The $1,000 abortion case fine creates the lien. Geater, 39, had received a suspended five year penitentiary sentence and a $1,000 fine on October 31, 1969, for aiding and abetting an abortion.

Judge Harold Vietor heard arguments Friday on whether to forfeit a 2500 appeal bond posted by Joseph Abodeely in his bid to avoid a five year term for assisting an abortion at Fort Madison. A ruling is expected early next week. Abodeely, 40, Cedar Rapids businessman, pleaded guilty in June 1969 and surrendered after pursuing several appeals. He is serving the sentence at the state penitentiary in Fort Madison.
