Lou Brock gets SBA loan backed for auto venture
The SBA guaranteed a 135000 bank loan to Lou Brock, St. Louis Cardinals left fielder, under the minority enterprise program. Brock sought an auto dealership in East St. Louis but said conventional SBA financing would have sufficed. The loan, 90 percent guaranteed, covered 150000 needed with Brock contributing 10000. The transaction drew questions about program use and image in East St. Louis.
