Missing RB-47 bomber over Barents Sea North of Finland

An American RB-47 reconnaissance bomber carrying six crewmen disappeared on a mapping mission north of Norway near the Barents Sea. The last position was 73 30 N 35 E, with search planes arriving in Bodoe, Norway. Crew members hailed from Topeka and other U S locations as officials say flights over Soviet territory were halted after the U-2 incident.

Demos Elect New Linn County Chairman At Convention

Paul Reichle was elected chairman of the Linn county Democratic central committee, defeating Harold Vietor on the third ballot. Ray Pyle elected treasurer. Helen Abdner and Betty Talkington re-elected as vice chair and secretary. Delegates also backed a constitutional convention for legislative reapportionment and 14 other resolutions, with 132 delegates named to the state conventions. Republicans endorsed constitutional path to reapportionment and urged voter instruction on voting machines ahead of the November election.
