Railways To Continue Pick-up Of Livestock
Railways say livestock pickup will be revamped to meet Interstate Commerce Commission rulings with no interruption. Farmers will no longer transport stock to loading chutes for rebates. instead, stock will move farm to destination via railroad linked truckers under new joint rates. The practice, started by Illinois Central and others about five years ago, covered a 250 mile north–south corridor to Chicago with a 3 cent per cwt incentive and trucker payments of 4 cents cwt in some cases.
