The 10 year parole of David K. Bilsland 21 was revoked in district court after he admitted a February 21 burglary at Cedar Rapids Auto Supply Co. He claimed he loaded stolen spark plugs into a company truck and sold the loot then abandoned the vehicle. New charges followed as police said he surrendered citing parole compliance troubles. He faces plea on the new breaking and entering charge by July 6 with court-appointed counsel.
Cedar Rapids city council reviews Merchants National Bank request to lease air space for an overpass above Third Street SE between the bank’s main building and its new motor banking facility. A May 27 approval granted Metro Development Co. a 210 foot easement behind the Killian building. the current request was referred to city offices and departments for study.

Andrew C. Hahn 79, of Des Moines and former Cedar Rapids resident, died Tuesday after a four week illness. Born in Tripp South Carolina he lived 20 years in Des Moines. He was retired after leading the Des Moines Register and Tribune commercial division. Surviving are his wife Linda son Norbert B. of Cedar Rapids sister Lena Reimann Waterloo and brother Emil Rockford IL. Services Thursday 10:30 a.m. at Dahlstrom funeral home Des Moines with burial at Cedar Memorial cemetery at 3 p.m.
Albert Fay Parkin died Tuesday in Manchester after a long illness. Born April 11, 1892 in Columbus Junction, he lived 45 years with the Chicago and North Western railroad before retirement. Surviving sisters are Mrs. E. C. Oschwald of Sarasota Florida, Mrs. L. E. Kruber and Mrs. S. W. Spencer of Cedar Rapids. Memorial services are set for 3 p.m. Friday at Turner chapel with Rev. Bernard Olson of Kenwood Park Methodist Church. Burial will follow in Oak Hill cemetery. Friends may call at the chapel.

The city council adopted nine code revisions submitted by City Attorney David McGuire, finalizing most recodification with only an employee classification ordinance remaining. The measures set age limits for pool billiard and card rooms, new bonding levels for city officers, and cover alcohol, driveway, police avoidance, purchases, repeals, and restaurant rules with a $10 license and $100 fine or 30 days for violations. Milwaukee’s Ordinance Codification Service will incorporate the changes, with a new code expected this fall.

Two 19 year olds William B. Ambers and Larry Jones were charged with larceny from a person after a daylight purse snatching on Third street SE. Bond set at 500 each. pleas due by 10 a.m. July 6. Velma Bucklin, 53, was grabbed as she walked from lunch. a passerby halted the theft and bakery worker John Neilly pursued the suspects. Police arrested Jones and Ambers minutes later near Fifth street and Eighth avenue SE. District Judge Warren Rees appointed counsel. Jones provided no permanent address. Ambers lists 1215 Fifteenth Street SE.
At the Sixth district Republican convention delegates approved rules that limit consideration to candidates from the June 1 primary. With a 418 to 131 vote the rules were adopted to nominate a candidate since none of seven primary contenders reached 35 percent. Woodbury county opposed the binding unit rule, and a bid to apply it failed 329 to 220. Hoeven had said he would retire after 22 years but signaled willingness to serve again. The dispute delayed the convention start by over an hour.
Hennessey Brothers Construction Co of Marion submitted the low bid for sanitary sewers in E avenue, Edgewood road, F avenue and Wiley boulevard NW. The bid was 20 248.40, about 1 205 or 5.6 percent below the city estimate of 21 453.40. Milan W Freese of Marion was the only other bidder, bidding 424.35 above the estimate. The project covers 4 587 feet and includes 17 concrete manholes.
Dorothea Holland 52 of Hiawatha faces a felony charge for false uttering of checks filed Wednesday. She already received a 30 day jail term for a prior offense after a June 13 $10 bad check and a June 23 similar check. A fourth offense charge was filed in Linn district court with a mandatory one year sentence if convicted. Holland remained jailed pending arraignment.
Cedar Rapids City Lines increases fares by 25 cents with July 14 effective date. New adult ride is 25 cents, children 5 to 12 pay 10 cents, youths 12 to 17 get ten rides for $1.25, seniors 65 and older ten rides for $1.50. Transfers cost a nickel.
