Defense gains as Dr Montanus admits errors in Overell trial

In Santa Ana, pathologist Dr. John Montanus admitted giving erroneous grand jury testimony about the Overell murder case. He then supported the state's claim that the Overells were dead before the yacht explosion, while acknowledging inconsistencies with earlier trial testimony. The cross examination raised questions about whether the injuries could result from the blast.

Traffic Deaths In May 1947 Rise From 1946

May 1947 saw 2,710 traffic deaths, a six percent rise from May 1946's 2,560, the National Safety Council reported. The monthly increases followed a pattern of higher deaths since January, driven by rising travel and complacency over safety gains. For the first five months, total deaths were 11,900, eleven percent below the 13,520 recorded in 1946.
