25 000 Men Set for Paris March by Black Maquis Leader
Paris officials disclosed the Black Maquis movement, with leaders arrested for plotting to topple the republic and set up a military dictatorship. The self described chief claimed 25,000 armed men ready to march on Paris and denied direct ties to the prewar CSAR. Breton Maquis groups and De Gaulle's RPF reacted by purging potential infiltrators, while the movement claimed its aim was to block a Communist advance and defend French democracy.
