Careful Cultivation Helps Kill Weeds In Young Corn
Iowa State college agricultural engineer E. L. Barger warns that careful cultivation with maximum dirt thrown into the corn row smothers many weeds. Where cross cultivation is impossible, weeds must be killed now or they won’t be. Extra dirt won’t hurt corn shoots if not fully covered, and even checked fields should apply smothering. If weeds escape first cultivation, disk killers can cover them later.
