Record Harvest Sets Seventh Consecutive Production Peak
American farmers reported a 1943 food production record for the seventh year running, with total output up 5 percent from 1942 and near 32 percent above the 1935-39 average. Wickard linked the surge to farmer skill and cooperation, while warning against postwar land inflation and urging controls on farm mortgage debt and land prices. The Iowa price index fell 3 points in mid January from December, led by eggs, with stable meat values and various commodity price shifts across the state.
