Cedar Rapids Sees First Drop in Shots Fired in Three Years
Cedar Rapids recorded 86 shots fired incidents in 2016, down 14 percent from 2015. Police Chief Wayne Jerman credits community outreach and the Police Community Action Team PCAT for the decline, with PCAT seizing 12 guns and 5400 dollars in cash, issuing warrants, and increasing field interviews and stops. Two of four homicides were non-vehicular, and a teen fatal shooting at 1500 Eighth Ave SE led to no arrests.
