Barnes & Noble plans deeper store closings and shrinkage
Barnes & Noble aims for a 450 to 500 store base in a decade, down from about 689, with roughly 20 closings annually. Spokeswoman Mary Ellen Keating said the plan remains unchanged and that some closures occur due to unprofitability or relocation. The retailer also runs 674 college bookstores and tests prototypes.
