Shuman Attacks Wheat Program at Champaign Meeting
Charles B. Shuman president of the American Farm Bureau Federation told the Champaign County Farm Bureau that wheat growers must decide in the 1963 referendum whether to accept government supply management or reject it and pursue freer markets. He accused Agriculture Secretary Freeman of using scare tactics and propaganda to push the program, warning of government control and propaganda costs. If defeated, he said market prices would guide wheat production and prevent overproduction and dumping.
