US livestock futures and cash markets show Friday estimates for hog and sheep numbers. Butcher hogs under 230 pounds drop 25 to 50 cents. slaughter cattle and calves mixed with feeders steady and weak spots noted. Prices in ranges for various weight classes across No 1 and No 2 categories. lambs and sheep also move lower or steady depending on grade.
Receipts Thursday around 65 000, week ago 100 000, year ago 47 500. Prices steady to 25 lower. Butchers 180-200 lbs 14.75-16.25, 200-220 lbs 15.75-16.25, 220-240 lbs 15.25-16.00, 240-270 lbs 14.50-15.50, 270-300 lbs 13.60-14.85. Sows 270-300 lbs 18.5-14.5, 330-400 lbs and 400-500 lbs 11.50-13.50.
UPI report from Waterloo lists hog weights and bid prices with ranges from 170 to 400 pounds. Buyers quote terms such as 13.50 to 16.25 per cwt and reference multiple weight brackets including 180 to 196 and 230 to 240 pounds.

Fire damaged the kitchen at the James Kelsey residence at 825 Cave NW. Officials say the daughter ignited a paper in a stove flame, causing curtains to flare and injuring a wall and cupboards.
Katherine Scheel of California sues the Milwaukee railroad for $150,000 in Linn county court after a fall on August 28 at the Marion depot. She charges negligence for wax on the floor and no warning. Injuries include back pain and facial nerve paralysis affecting taste and left face and throat. The case was moved Thursday to Cedar Rapids federal district court.
Des Moines Iowa. A repeal bill to end Iowa 1949 right to work law headed to the house floor with no recommendation from the labor committee. Representative Robert Conner and others sponsor the measure as organized labor seeks repeal of the restriction on closed shop and union shop agreements.

Leslie J. Kenney aged 52 was found dead in a farm silo near Strawberry Point on Wednesday afternoon. Death attributed to a heart attack. his son Thomas 15 discovered the body.
