Economist warns bonus bill could set risky precedent
University of Iowa economist Professor George Haskell says the veterans bonus may create inflationary pressure in a future Congress session. He notes the bill itself is mildly inflationary, but organized groups could push broader subsidies, while bond markets are already priced in. He explains money expansion via bank credit poses the real risk and production limits cap gains, warning against funded promises.
